I see the point that you can communicate with Windows Live contacts with Yahoo Messenger but could I log in with my GMail/Windows Live account? I hate having to add the contacts again.

GMail is another service out of Windows Live service. so if you want to use the windows live, then you need to create an account for that. just like a yahoo account that cannot be used for windows live, but you can communicate between the two. either you is having yahoo and your friend is windows live, or vice versa.
